Hey, let me tell you a little about myself. I'm Daryl Masterson, born in a small town in Southern Illinois in 1953, which will soon qualify me as an "old poop." I'm currently living in SE Arizona. I spent 22 years in the United States Navy mostly in submarine service, also known as the 'silent service,' (a very different military lifestyle).
I have been interested in photography for a very long time. While I was in the Navy I could not afford a good camera. After my Navy retirement in 1994 I moved from South Carolina back to the Mid-West. For several years I worked in the Information Technology computer field. Somewhere around 1999 I bought my first digital camera, a Sony DSC 8. I was thrilled technology had made a huge jump, making digital cameras affordable to the retail market.
Armed with a good camera, I studied photography on my own at every opportunity. Comments by those viewing my photographic skills lead me to actually believe I might have a talented eye for capturing images.
Encouraged, I read and reread articles on how to make better pictures. I vowed to educate myself about the photographic programs available at the time, such as Photoshop.
Later, I graduated to a Canon Digital camera. My first was a Canon 20D, DSLR. I shopped around for deals on different lens I could afford. Many of those first lens are still in my collection. Currently I shoot with a Canon 7D. As technology continues to advance and photographic products become less expensive, I upgrade.
My favorite photo editing tool is Adobe Lightroom. Although I still use Photoshop, Lightroom is fast, relatively simple and catalogs all my pictures good or 'bad.'
As I look back over the pictures I have taken in the past, I become acutely aware the tremendous amount of time and effort required to become a professional photographer. Due to my own time constraints, photography will most likely remain a hobby for me. When taking and composing pictures is no longer fun, I will pursue another hobby.
Until that time, if ever, please join me in my journey for eye capturing images. Hope everyone visiting this website will share their thoughts about my photographic passion on the blog comment section.
Thanks for taking time to view my photo gallery.
